Wine Is In The Air!

With February quickly coming to a close and winter blues firmly rooted, why not plan a vacation? Or better yet, a staycation! Northeast Ohio’s premium wine industry in the Grand River Valley Wine Region recently harvested grapes for Ice Wine and is gearing up for the annual Ice Wine Festival, held the first three weekends in March.

This special harvest requires that the grapes be picked and pressed while frozen. Oftentimes, the harvest is done in the dead of night when temperatures hover around 20 degrees. The resulting elixir is surprisingly syrupy and sweet. Ice Wine is a great desert wine and pairs well with chocolate.

Planning a stay in the area is a breeze. Due to more than two dozen wineries, the vacation rental industry is booming and guests have many options when choosing a place to stay. While there are a number of hotels in the area, renting a vacation home through HomeAway, VRBO or Air BnB can elevate your stay and help you feel like a local.

Staying on winery property, overlooking The Grand River or Lake Erie, or quaint cottages nestled around the area bring you close to the action. Area transportation groups can help shuttle guests from winery to winery and safely home, allowing a full experience of what the wineries have to offer. Dining options abound and continue to grow, with everything from casual dining to Bistro with a local twist. Take some time to explore the covered bridges, shop for antiques or site see along the shores of Lake Erie. While life in North East Ohio slows a bit in the winter, there are still plenty of activities to capture everyone’s interest.

Grand River Valley Rentals has homes to accommodate large groups or small. We hope you choose to visit our area. Contact us today to book a weekend for your Ice Wine Festival getaway and let us help you plan your stay!

Ice Wine Festival

The Ice Wine Festival is just around the corner. Ice Wine is made from grapes that are left hanging in the vines after the traditional harvest. The grapes are picked and pressed when frozen and fermented into a sweet dessert wine. There are only a few appellations in North America where this unique wine is produced and North East Ohio’s Grand River Valley Wine Growing Region is one of those. Book a weekend stay at our Fairwinds Cottage for any weekend in February or March and receive a $50 gift certificate to one of the participating Ice Wine Festival Wineries!
